Is higher education (including private) a product of the state or the market?
Couldn’t it be both?
Who writes the curriculum?
It’s a product of the market with HEAVY influence by the State.
Well, I guess it’s pretty obvious that it is a product of both the state and market, but to what what extent do you believe? College is extremely expensive, and doesn’t really provide much experience. Wouldn’t a free market in labor without mandatory regulation and licensing, make it more economic to have less formal education, and instead have specialized training specifically for gaining experience in the needs of the job and company. Most of the skills needed for a job are acquired on the job rather than through college, after-all.
So, what causes many higher-wage-jobs to require college, when they could hire younger people without a college education, for less money, and with the same ability to learn the skills of the business?
Once upon a time public schools and universities used to be excellent.
Now they aren’t.
Do you know this as a fact? They’ve had a history of being politically and religiously motivated, cramped and underfunded, under-managed and with slack educational standards, and aggressively strict with abusive disciplinary actions undertaken by teachers, with corporal punishment being legal. Like all socialist “companies” the degree with which the public schooling system has failed is increasing.
Imagine the possibilities of a totally liberated education and labor market.
A major part of the problem lately has been government intervention creating this dischord in quality of schooling and price of education. If the government increases Pell Grants and other financial aid, the only purpose that is ultimately served is the ability of the school to raise the price. If your income magically rises, the amount any one firm(or institution) can charge you has also increased, especially in the case of schools. The reason schools can especially do this is that they know exactly how much people earn or borrow, and can charge anywhere within whatever they see reasonable. A reason the quality of schools has declined is that the government has mandated that multiple regulations be followed, which has created a lack of actual learning and creativity on the part of these schools.
Public education fails in teaching elementary arithmetic and ortography.
But it teaches subjects such as premilitary instruction, and threatens to outlaw private education because the latter is labelled as counterrevolutionary.
The more regulated schools are, the worse the education. Prime example the “no child left behind act”.
