Are there any studies or papers that discuss the effects on a socialist state of being surrounded by non-socialist states? For example, does the price the US consumer pays for prescription drugs subsidize these products in a socialized medicine economy? Can it be shown that the US consumer would pay less if the Canadian / European consumer paid more? Does the American taxpayer carry some of the burden of social services in other countries through price controls, etc., in international trade?
