Entrepreneur's in Online Gaming

Maybe this will end up being an interesting thread. I found this guy on P99. His two posts are pretty inspiring.

He is essentially a facilitator of trades, a middleman suppler and seller. He works on consignment primarily. Since Classic EQ has no way of automating trades he essentially becomes your all day sales guy. He will buy a good when it becomes available, and/or sell a good for you. You agree to his terms and his price. Not only are you increasing the likely hood of selling your goods by reaching a broader audience you are in effect protecting yourself from fraud and scams He points out,

Check out the below quote from him as well where he points out that this whole business operates off of his good standing with the community.

What is really encouraging is while big gaming networks try and close these operations down, and as a result scamming is rampant, P99 recognizes the usefulness of an escrow/consignment service to facilitate trades between individuals. This puts a serious blow to online fraud.

It’s encouraging to see the market come forth in the weirdest of places. It’s neat that this guy was able to find an opportunity like this in a game. I doubt he makes any real money but I’m sure his ingame status of increased purchasing power has been rewarded!

See Here and Here.

If you’ve never played an MMO this likely will not make much sense to you.

I’d like to see more examples of this.

In an old MMO called The Realm there were people, such as myself, who did exactly this. I forget our term for them but basically you’re an escrow agent. The entire thing worked on reputation, with people demanded ever more reputable escrow agents for progressively larger transactions.

Payment came in terms of tips, mostly, or a straight fee if they wanted you to travel to them.

EVE Online has a similar agent in the game’s market. The player acts as a broker of sorts to facilitate trade(s) between playres.
