This girl (Dulce Juarez) started the fasting thing outside of McCain’s office. She was the residential assistant when I was a freshman in college. She lived on my floor and was quite a nutjob.
I’m assuming most of you aren’t for the DREAM Act at all since it increases the welfare state (not directly, but it will end up giving a ton of financial aid to previously-illegal immigrants who are most likely poor), but it also allows illegal immigrants to go to college in the United States and earn citizenship. For those of you who are against, borders do you support the DREAM Act? It’s kind of a border vs. welfare question.
Socialized borders that obstruct the free movement of people across public thoroughfares and redistributing the wealth of some people onto other people are two different subjects. I don’t have to be “for” borders to oppose redistribution of wealth from people on this side of a socialist border to people on that side of a socialist border.
Yeah, I know. I’m just asking if people on here would support the DREAM Act because it tends open up the borders but also opens up welfare spending, and vice versa. I’m not asking if you oppose/support certain parts, it’s more of a would-you-rather if you did or did not vote for it. And I understand a lot of people on here don’t vote either, but it’s just a hypothetical.
The last time I checked the DREAM Act only ‘opens’ up the borders for those who either serve in the military or a university, and on top of that would only apply to those who were here five years prior to its enactment. It wouldn’t deal with future ‘undocumented’ workers, and it would give no benefit to those who fail to either fight for the state in the battlefield or defend its decisions in academia. I honestly think that all the work being spent on passing it would be better used trying to just remove restrictions on movement and employment.
Haha its funny a friend of mine who graduated from my university last year and is working for LULAC in DC keeps posting facebook updates on the progress of her own fast. The DREAM ACT is nothing more than spending on loans and trading a few years as an army grunt for citizenship.
