Do you think the creation of public roads through coercive methods has stifled the invention of the flying car?
I didn’t like that for the first minute of the video but now I really want one. I think the design needs some work as far as driving goes, though. Possibly making the wings slide into the interior of the car or something.
I get the feeling that like most severe engineering compromises, it’s not a particularly attractive car or aircraft in their own seperate rights. You need room and weight allowance for the inner workings of two different machines which need different shapes to work well in their own right.
Still, it’s something that someone needed to do purely for the lulz, and kudos to those that did. Just don’t expect to put one in every garage. 
I wouldn’t credit roads too much for killing the flying car - the strict requirements and high fees required to get a pilot’s license are probably the main culprits.
Yes, truckloads of money spent over the last 100 years on roads and car subsidization has misallocated money that may have been spent on other forms of transportation. I speculate that people would demand helicopters because helicopters don’t require expensive roads/runways. An increased market in helicopters would encourage greater innovation in the production process decreasing the price of a helicopter.
Without roads, less nature is destroyed. In addition, accidents can be avoided more easily in flight transportation has more travel space than road transportation. Since flying transportation occurs off the ground, ground level pedestrians are in the vicinity of transportation less increasing safety.
