I got to this discussion with my friend, I suggested that the libertarians of the world unite and buy a piece of land from a government in Africa. This area would be chosen because of it’s relatively sustainability (resource wise) and scarce population. The people there will be paid to leave, or at the end of means, they will stay and will have to conform to the justice system of the new anarchy.
Do you really think “seasteading” could work? I think it’s just too capital intensive. You will need to exert a lot of effort just to create the “land” and maintain it.
I think it’s quite plausible that a corrupt dictator in Africa would want to sell some of the land he currently rules for bribe, going into his own pocket. In addition we would need to compensate the current inhabitants (who will probably move to the new borders of their old state so the dictator is even happier that he didn’t “lose” as much people).
I find that it’s quite difficult to encourage people to freedom where is live (Israel). People here are just too habilitated to socialism and coercion, most of the population (the stupid majority) is just beyond repair for a guy with limited patience like me
You better step on the gas because your Central Bank, in the course of the last two years, has bailed out your entire banking system, without anybody noticing. Massive inflation is coming your way.
You should go learn how the market works. If you claim to know already, you are fooling yourself. Go back and start all over again. You can make this kind of argument about any good or service in the free market. The Billionaire will buy all the bread! Then what? The argument is false.
Believe me when I say that I’m about the only person here who is aware of all this. Every couple of months I mail the “Bank of Israel” to annoy them. Once it was because they “forgot” to publish the monthly balance sheet for 6 months (yes, you read this right. no one outside the bank knew what they were doing for 6 months in the most inflationist period in recent memory - and no one cared!)
The second time I mailed was because they wouldn’t say in what “assets” they were investing the USD they bought with the local currency they printed. So I challenged them legally (freedom of information act - whatever that means) and they basically told me to bug off and appeal to the court if I want to.
Now I don’t know what to do. People here praise the bank of israel governor (Stanley Fischer, who was Bernanke’s dissertation adviser) and cannot see the simple truth that they are robbing the people on a grand scale and investing the funds according to political considerations (I would guess MBS and 30yr bonds).
