Good books on International Monetary Economics?

Hi all,

I am looking for books on international monetary theory. Hopefully the content would combine theory and practice, for example:

thoery goes first, then an examination of the international monetary history from before WWI to (if possible) current days. It is even better If there is a good critic about international monetary system based gold standard, fiat currency and fixed/floating exchange.

I found a book “Internationa monetary economics” by Michael Heilperin that seems to discuss what I am looking for. Haven’t read it yet, any comments on this book? Any other books on top your mind?

I have Heilperin’s book too, but still need to go through it. Aside from him, I think it would be worth checking out the work of Jacques Rueff and Charles Rist, some of which is published for free on this site.
