I live in Blackburg, VA, far away from the coastal areas of the Gulf; however, that didn’t stop the hysteria of “Gas is running out! Top off your tanks!” from hitting here. On Friday (9/12), I was heading home from work and noticed that every gas station where the price was $3.55 - $3.85, about 15-20 cars were there waiting to fill up. I know of a couple of stations that actually ran out of gas. Then, I passed a couple of stations where the price at each was $4.19. How many cars were there?: Combined, I could count the number on one hand. I thought to myself: “I would be more than happy to pay $4.19 and get ‘gouged’, because I know that gas will be available at that price.” I find amazing the economic ignorance of the media and the populace. Don’t these people realize that the high prices discourage people from purchasing gas that is not needed, conserving gas for those who do? Very frustrating.
No, they don’t. They have an entitlement mentality.
