Are there any articles addressing the fact that buying a government bond or treasury note is giving money to the government to spend money on programs one may be opposed to?
Check out Frank Chodorov’s article “Don’t Buy Government Bonds” (Chapter 17, page 180 of this PDF document). The gist of the article is that the purchase of bonds is morally problematic not so much because of what is done with the money, but because of the fact that the state uses coercion (taxation) to pay back the bonds. Therefore, the best thing for the government to do is to repudiate its debt, and the bondholders are not entitled to anything because they were the ones that invested in a criminal enterprise in the first place.
