I have just recently discovered Austrian Economics through support of Ron Paul and his campaign for president. I am looking at finding unbiased/uncensored information as to the specifics of the bailout and where we (the people) can find information as to what the government is spending our money on. Why is there so much hatred among the libertarian left towards one of the least corrupt, spendthrift and intrusive Congressmen?
Yes, he’s not a perfect anarchist. Yes, he’s collecting income that was generated by the taxation process. Yes, he’s a politician.
And you know what? He’s sitting in the committees and telling all the crooks that their schemes will not help “jump start the economy” for one bit. A breath of fresh air among all the “stimulus” garbage.

Wow, I might not agree with him on some parts, but he is the only Congressman, that has any knowledge of economics what-so-ever.
Are you sure about that? I’m of the personal opinion that he uses the constitution for more rhetorical purposes and his actual views go farther than one might think.
Well, I was half joking. But why not ? He works for the government. He should be able to get (almost?) all the information.
I’d have to apologize if your statement was intended to express this. I thought you were taking a cheap shot at Paul for being a Congressman, though it’s vitally important to have Congressmen like Paul in these statist days …
As for spending transparency, wasn’t it a central demand on Obama’s spending agenda that it be done “publicly” and “in front of everyone’s eyes”? If so, Paul should take the politicrooks at their word.
Considering that he’s been with the Mises Institute for more than 20 years now, has been studying Austrian economics for an even longer period of time and has actually seen the Matrix from within, this cannot be ruled out.
However, I feel that Ron Paul clinges to the idea of “e pluribus unum” and “limited government” due to a deep sense of patriotism and attachment to the Founding Fathers. That may be somewhat misleaded, considering that quite a number of Founding Fathers were not exactly cut of libertarian cloth and the US had longed to be an empire even before it became independent, but, you know, who am I to judge him.

Ron Paul has done more for truth, freedom and the message of Liberty, prosperity & peace, than any other politician in modern history!
If it wasn’t for him, I’d still be an independent leaning socialist who worshiped Chomsky… I even wrote him a personal letter, which I now look back upon with utter horror. He replied.
Thanks to Ron Paul and the Mises Institute, I can easily critique his arguments on anarcho-capitalist and see him for the joke he is. I’m considering replying to his letter, with my own attached - and tell him, how I’ve seen the light and am now an avid follower of anarcho-capitalism.

Anyway, Ron Paul is amazingly fulfilling a role that needs to be filled. If he wasn’t in Congress, kiss a shiteload of relevancy and attention to the cause goodbye.
I am in total agreement with this. In this day and age, all you get is sound bites - you can’t go on into long depth discussions, you get several minutes - follow the Constitution rhetoric fufills its purpose concisely.
No-one in their right mind would run as an anarcho-capitalist, not if they wanted to get elected of course. But all this is missing the point, it doesn’t entirely matter if you’re an anarcho-capitalist or minarchist.
It’s about whether you are a “radical” or a “conservative”. If you’re an “abolitionist” instead of a “gradualist”. Rothbard has written a few great peices on this. Imo, Ron Paul is far more of an abolitionist, get rid of the CIA, Fed, IRS, Dept of Education… bam, bam, bam.

If I ever get to meet the good Dr. that is what I plan to ask him about. And if he was, I certainly wouldn’t go tell anyone. That fact could be very detrimental imo. While he’s still in office anyway. shrugs
A year ago, a person would have been able to take a bigger swipe at Paul and had some support for it.
Today, people rush to correct the record and point out how important Paul has been and perhaps will be.
