I am writing a term paper on my economics class named “Some issues concerning the formation of exchange rate during financial crisis” where I want to show how central banks regulate exchange rates of their currencies in order to get competitive advantage in international trade. I will make a particular stress on Fed’s policy of the QE and its effect on dollar’s index. The reason why I took this topic is that there have been some interesting articles about currency wars on mises.org that showed me the importance of this matter.
I have already studied main theories of exchange rate formation (PPP, balance of payments approach, assets approach, monetary approach to the exchange rate) in order to try to apply them to current situation, and reached the point where I am to examine currency policy of a couple of countries (the USA and Japan, I think).I also have an idea to compare competitive devaluation of today with the one of 1930s
So I would be very obliged if you suggest me some resources where details about exchange rates manipulation during the Great Depression can be found as well as some studies (if you know any) of the current currency policies of the US or Japan.
