krazy kaju, I am a 19 year old and you’re a 19 year old.

I understand it is typical of those of our age to be extremely passionate and confrontational.

But this whole thing, of going to some socialist message board, making these posts under the pretense of being nice and open-minded, and then coming back here snickering about how stupid you found people there…it’s so immature…it’s like behaving like a 19 year old.

Note that I am not defending the lone few ill-mannered folk in that forum here and there, but this behaviour is getting very typical all across the internet.

Case in point:

  1. Large number of conservatives like HowTheWorldWorks from YouTube show an unusual obsession with reading and commenting on HuffingtonPost and getting angry that gasp there are progressives in HuffPo.

  2. Large number of progressives do nothing but read libertarian blogs all the time, read Objectivist blogs all the time, read conservative blogs all the time, read Tea Party blogs all the time, or watch Glenn Beck all the time just so they could go back to their YouTube channels or editorials to complain about them in very long rants.

  3. Large number of atheists do nothing but visit sites of the religious right all the time, visit Christian forums all the time, and all the rest just so they could complain about religious people.

  4. Et cetera et cetera et cetera.

It’s like you dedicate yourself to searching things that make you angry, or only seek out and preach to people least interested in listening. A practice in futility.

I get a chuckle out of knowing that there are progressives who are so obsessed with a tiny fringe group with no influence in politics. Most aren’t, and most are normal people not bothered that there are those with different perspectives. The former seem alarmed that marginal differences in views are a threat to future activist policies. At the very least, it is unnecessary.

It’s the same about the alarm about the religious right, which has always been feeble, and only reached its peak in the western world after Patrick Buchanan won three million votes against Bush Sr. but lost. The religious right is gone from politics forever. I wonder why atheists are obsessed with it.

So I am further disappointed that libertarians here show the same behaviour as the rest of the internet amateur political scientist crowd. You want to go and debate the people who forever lost their chance once the Cold War was over? For whom? Their sake? Your sake? Are you alarmed like atheists worrying that there are still churchgoers out there who vote? Are you really as dedicated as those progressives who read poorly written libertarian blogs to get a vague summary from them to refute in anger in their own?

Recently, somebody made a topic saying, “Patrick Buchanan wrote an article attacking free trade. It is BEGGING to be refuted.” Begging to be refuted? Like some syndicated columnist’s opinions have polluted the air by having been published? And it needs to be sprayed out/refuted quickly? Is every man’s opinion an academic paper that requires peer review?

I started a debate once on there where i linked the deathwish of anarcho communists and well as you may guess it was pure vitriol and no logic. They just spew sophistry after sophistry and really its funny and annoying. When i do randomly log on I find on messages on visitor wall that usually go along the lines of kunt, dumbass, communists will strangle you with your guts, burn in hell, etc.

Even the rudest comments here seems light compared to their straight up violent and cruel comments. A lot of their comments are just shallow insults. It’s frightening.

Then again there is this:

I can’t even believe it. I am so glad the mises.org forums are much nicer. It shows how totally and utterly important civility is. We should be inspired to take the intellectual high ground no matter what. Make the mises forums a beacon of light on the internet. It will shine all the brighter next to revleft.

I don’t think they ever identified themselves as reformist leftists. In fact, I think the name of site stands for “revolutionary leftists.”

I don’t think they ever intended to make friends with the supporters of capitalism.

Just because it is the internet doesn’t mean one has to act like it.

Have you seen the comments in the Chronicles Magazine website? Everybody is spirited in enough in talk and and everybody is moderate enough in temparement to worry only about the things that matter. Even the behaviour of trying to “call him out” is considered bad manners, and posters are advised not to take a prosecutorial overtone.

Think about it. In real life, do you talk to people like you are prosecuting them?

Yes. I’m point positive I would do the same to you, should I encounter you and confront you on your positions.

Thats what sets your character apart from them, which is a good thing. Yet still still it’s a manner of expectations. The internet is loud, obnoxious, and aarogant. We should not expect less then that. I agree though, that this isn’t an excuse to act in that manner, just to be aware of it.

In the real world, you have to worry about getting slugged in the face with the way people talk on the internet. Look I get your point, but it’s still the internet we’re talking here, not the real world face to face interactions.
