I think that depends on what you are doing. If you are simply a trading platform for usual goods, an attack would be horrible publicy. If, on the other hand, you are selling drugs and you are shut down, that could turn out to be good publicity for the agressor. I wonder what the case would be, if you are selling drugs but not allow them to be “exported”, so that they have to be consumed onboard.
Recently the government raised the price to leave the US up to $450 if you renounce your citizenship. Also you still have to pay taxes for up to ten years. So leaving won’t be that easy. States also still have to grant rights for someone to enter their waters. Though i’m more interested in whether or not the UN would recognize one as an independent actor.

I like the seasteading concept, because it’s incremental and doesn’t claim the be the best solution evar. It doesn’t even say that it will be ‘ready’ in 20 or 50 years - the guys are just advancing their vision and it may come true sooner or later. At the very least it will expand the number of alternatives for freedom seekers.
As for the main question, I’d probably go for some variant of 4) - given a large enough number of alternatives, some of which can be observed already (private security, etc.), the state will be increasingly hard to defend, and even better, may end up appearing useless and only interfering with peoples’ lives. So more of a gradual erosion of trust into the state than a swift violent revolution.

The micronation ‘Sealand’ has survived for over 40 years on a offshore platform near the UK coast. While it has posed no threat to the UK nor visa versa I think it may have defended itself twice from private pirates? Its basically a little family run nation with a sat link datacenter hosting many grey market type web ventures. Imagine passports/citzenships are still for sale too?
