“[T]he school district is considering a policy that prohibits gang attire” to increase safety.
This is dumb from a security perspective. Is the problem the gangs or gang attire? If you disallow gang attire, there will continue to be gang members. But since they are now not dressed in gang attire, how would you know who the gang members are, and thus, who to keep a close eye on? You would have to rely more on racial profiling, rather than simply looking at their attire. By removing gang attire from your profiling, now everyone becomes a suspect because anyone could be a gang member. Anyway, that’s the state for you.
Also, if there wasn’t compulsory attendance, the school’s gang problem would be greatly reduced since they wouldn’t even bother to show up to the school, since their drug clientele would simply leave campus to go buy and consume drugs.
