If I remember correctly Iceland has Scandinavian-style tax rates without the breaks afforded to, say, R&D by the Swedish government. And while the Icelandic government probably (and I say probably) has very little in the way of cohercitive power who knows how they could react to such an endeavour. After all it would be more money for them to collect.

I had given thoughts about investing in Iceland because the local economy is still contrapting following their own credit bust and there could be the opportunity to strike good deals but plainly put the local government isn’t exactly friendly to foreign investors, which is what such people would be seen as. They won’t drive you out of the country with pitchforks but their tax rates and particulalrly obnoxious regulations are a nuisance enough to make you think twice about investing there, let alone move in.

Perhaps in a few year they’ll be desperate enough to welcome foreign investors with open arms but until then I wouldn’t put my money there.

There are more free staters in NH than there are cops in Iceland, to give you an idea of the sort of power base we’re talking here. Most of those cops are in the west, which is practically a different country geographically speaking from the east.

Instead of spending money moving to Iceland, you should spend money having kids. Bryan Caplan said so.
