What do I need to know?
I’ve been a member of many other professional and fun communities, and I understand a lot about forum dynamics and online communities.
I am not an economist, but I am well versed in political theory and communication.
So — what do I need to know to get the most out of this place (and give the most back?)
You need to know everything. Everyone here is all seeing, all knowing. [:)]
Seriously, be prepared to lose anything you know about political theory. It might not have much value here.

Actually, I am fairly well-versed there. I minored in Political Theory under the late Dr. Daniel Pound at the University of Alabama. His courses were rather rigorous, both in terms of depth and breadth of reading material, and in the manner in which students went after each other for inconsistencies.
So at least in that regard, I am not entering into this community blinded by common veils of political thought. I do recognize the differences between theories and ideologies.
Did you cover apolitical theories?
Not sure what you are getting at with apolitical – but if you’re referring to anything involving emergent systems that do not involve organization or direction then I believe my readings of chaos/complexity theory prepped me in that regard. ‘Anarchy’ gets portrayed as a bad word.
One of the books I culled from Pound’s massive syllabus was Godel-Escher-Bach. If that doesn’t lay the groundwork for spontaneous order I’m not sure what will.

Yeah, I’m new here too. Don’t have too much backround knowledge though; I’m only 13 and have only simple understanding of the Business Cycle Theory.
There is a ton of material to read, depending upon what you are interested in. Also, if Spanish is your first language, Rodrigo Diaz translates a lot of material on his Mises blog if you would prefer to read in Spanish instead of English.
My first language is Spanish, but I immigrated to the USofA when I was 6 from Colombia, hence I have a more profound knowledge of the English language-thank you though.

Do you read LewRockwell.com? That’s a good starting point. As are the Mises daily articles.
If you search the forum for “reading list” I am sure you will turn up dozens of posts on the subject.
