If the central banks work as lenders of last resort - as Walter Bagehot put it - to commercial banks (with the inflationary dangers and losses for freedom that it brings), isn’t the IMF some kind of hyper-lender of last resort to central banks and an even larger threat to the free market and freedom itself? Instinctively I tend to assume so, but maybe there are some arguments in favor of it that I am unaware. But, as far as I know, the IMF is not a very capitalist institution, rather an imperialistic one.
Yes, it is anti-free market. But the easier target is the Fed.
