One poster wrote, “I like the Austrians somewhat, even if they are full of rubbish when it comes to Marx.”
Another wrote, “Don’t dismiss Bohm-Bawerk’s criticism just because it is “anti-Marx”. It is probably the most honest, indepth, academic critique of Marxian economics.”
And it was also said by the same poster that most people who criticize either Marxian economics or classical economics understand neither, while the Old Austrian School in Vienna were among the few serious heavyweights who understood both their own economics and what Marx had actually written.
Just compare Bohm Bauwerk to today’s Krugmans and Stiglitzes who only refute opponents by stating what they know of their arguments by hearsay, while Bauwerk actually directly read opponent’s works and attempted to understand them before any criticism. It just shows the kind of intellectual lightweights who dominate academia today.
Someone takes RevLeft seriously? It’s impossible to have a serious discussion without having some raging preteen describe to you exactly how he’d like to disembowel you and drag your dead body through the streets of post-revolutionary USA for believing that private property is OK.
Even G.A. Cohen, a Marxist, saw through Marxian economics.
Yeah I definately do not understand Marxian economics. I could never quite work through how capital resources materialize in the clouds and then fall down to earth. I suppose its just my own intellectual shortcoming.
Same here marxist economics seems to have been thought of and then never vetted. Like one time i was reading the Iron Heel by jack london and in there he sets out very basic understandings of marxism. One marxian theory he pointed out was that after capitalists bought their share of goods and workers bought their share then what is to be done with the left over and while reading this i was kinda surprised by the stupidity of what i was reading. Its almost like simple economics from my 3rd grade class could solve that dilemma. Most marxist things seem so ass backwards that understanding them takes a bullshit reader or you have to be a teenager with no common sense.
I find this quote by “BAM” hilariously ironic because he accuses the Austrians of straw manning Marx:
Yeah the Austrian theory of the business cycle is basically one of disproportionality - the production of too much means of production. Although of course their explanation lays the blame with the state rather than the mkt.
