Iran releasing hikers?

Ahmadinejad yesterday said he predicted a release of the hikers soon and suggested that the US release some Iranian prisoners.

Is this simply a trick to get people to like him more (as in he already knows they won’t get out but says they will, and when the judicial counters him, and he says well, division of powers, man) or is this actual division of powers (of some kind)?

Ahmadinejad is actually pretty useless. The president of Iran is more of a figurehead than anything. They still have religious councils of Imams.

My guess is they don’t want a reason for the US to have any involvement in the area, so they’re giving back the hikers. Not without some red tape though. They still need to show that they only return hostages on their terms.
