Incidentally, an ad hominem, contrary to popular misconception, is not any personal attack or insult; it’s a charge that a person’s arguments are unsound because of some irrelevant personal characteristic. Hence:

“You don’t know anything about economics because you’re 14.” <== Ad hominem.

"You don’t know anything about economics because you haven’t studied it. <== Not an ad hominem.

“You’re an idiot.” <== Not an ad hominem.

Leviathan my friend. On this forum at least when you start a statement in ad-hominem with insulting someone’s character ngyour often seen as being evasive and unable to address the actual point at hand. You may have a valid argument, try defending your case by explaining yourself rather then calling names.

I suppose your comment would have been a red herring than, am I wrong? You see I am still learning myself. Either way it’s a logical fallacy.
