I just blogged: Is Sweden less socialistic than the US? The gist is that to me it seems many Swedes are more open minded about the case for liberty than many Americans. Maybe the revolution will begin in Sweden and then spread?

I never tire to read that entry. It applies to pretty much the whole “Western World”.
To get back to the original entry. Is there hope? I think not. Will there be change? Yes, but not because we will wake from our collective sleep. We will be forced to change because by giving in to every whim and not holding anyone accountable for his/her action we’ll go broke. If the world doesn’t go up in smoke in a mushroom cloud before that.
Good stuff! My point is that this all seems to be happening to the US too, but since Sweden is ahead of you, maybe we will exhaust the welfare state idea before you.

I refuse to let go of hope! I just listened to Jeff Riggenbach’s piece about Thomas Paine - From Pirate to Revolutionary and it told me to fight! I agree that it seems to be a race between the current state of affairs imploding and the conscious fight for liberty. And even that the former is in the lead. But still, all the more reason to not give up. There are no guarantees that after a crash of the current system it will be replaced by a more moral one.
I’d say yes, purely on the basis that there isn’t nearly as much tolerance for government violence against even those who are considered “out there” in Scandinavia as there is in the US.
It could depend on what you mean by the US - it is a huge land. On the whole I don’t think there is much hope for the US at all. But for parts of it - who knows?
The Swedes, Danes, Norses and Icelanders have a very big plus on their side: very little concerned with religion. That does mean a lot. Perhaps some interesting developments will indeed come from good old .
