Is tyranny almost an inevitability?

I realize that a tyranny that always grows will eventually crumble under its own weight, but is tyranny always destined to arise? Are people inherently going to always be jealous of others enough to reign bloody hell on them. All it takes is a sizable well organized minority for a tyranny to rise somewhat rapidly. And the more devilish (like the Western Democracy types) ones seem to succede, to quote star wars,by “killing liberty with thouderous applause”.

It should be fairly obvious by now we have no real rights protected by the government. We are under the tyranny of the jealous and powerful mobs who use government to dictate their will. But if if anarchy or some form of an older version of the old Republic were to arise, are they doomed to fail because of jealousy?

…and to answer the original question, yes, as long as the word ‘inevitable’ means anything i think it applies to the coming tyranny.

Once you grant someone a monopoly, it is inevitable that it will be exploited.

If you grant a monopoly on justice, it is inevitable that it will be tyrannical.

True, but then I assume the form of hsi question would change to something like:

Is the current monopoly of justice going to continue inevitably.

Maybe a more useful (although I doubt it) discussion to have would be why do you think the current/coming tyranny is inevitable (or vice versa)?

For me personally I believe that the current economic/militaristic crisis (namely spending and ineffective, downright destructive intervention) is not going to lead to a renaissance in Libertarian ideology. Personally I believe it will lead to tighter controls in all walks of live until eventually bare-faced violence is used on the domestic populations to subdue them. After that comes radical depopulation (see my current thread on this, hence my interest).

Timescales anyone? Or are we all abit long in the tooth for that sort of thing…?
