islamic gold standard

what do people think of the movement in Malaysia and Indonesia et al to have a precious metal standard called dinars and dirihams? Would it have a positive effect on our efforts to have sound honest money again?

Also, how can Islam prohibit charging interest when interest is a key market mechanism in determining weather people are saving or consuming? I mean how can an economy grow if you for example lend 300 dollars to somebody and then get three hundred dollars back without interest or other collateral?

I think it is awesome. Asia, the middle east and Africa have a lot of potential to create new paradigms because they are so different economically, historically and culturally.
