One of the biggest reasons I’m still glad to be in the US of A is that, other than something like, “We need to have a revolution, right now, culminating with stabbing Bush through the fucking eye, who’s with me?”, we can say whatever the hell we want and, in some situations, anyway, put whatever we want on TV. Censorship of this kind is becoming less and less relevant, of course, as the internet strips even governments of the control of information, but still…
I agree - so long as we can prevent something like “The Great Firewall of China” from popping up in the . I see this as one argument for voting actually: to help prevent that sort of thing from occurring so that we can get the message of true liberty out there without winding up in a gulag.
Why does the Inter American Society of Press warn than in the USA freedom of speech has been severely harmed and much more journalists have been prosecuted today than a few years ago? The new trend in the US is also shifting toward media repression, just as in less fortunate countries.
Any examples of that? I mean of journalists prosecuted for political reasons, not some tabloids sued for publishing pictures of some stupid celebrity
I assume the Russians will just do what I do (though South Park is not banned in the US) and that is go to mrtwig.net and download a torrent that is either .avi or .rm and watch it. That is what I am going to do after my shift at work here. Get home by 9am, pet the cat, download the torrent, crack open a beer, and watch South Park sans commercials.
According to the Russian media, it’s not as simple as that. Someone wants to buy the channel that shows South Park so they’re using it as excuse to take them to court or otherwise cause them trouble and force them to close or buy them cheaper. I guess you can think about it as another example of using political power for business purposes. Happens all the time in Russia as polititians have ties in or outright own many of the businesses.
