I wanted to respond, not because of even remote disagreement, but because it’s an understatement, when you consider the folks in the Alternative Right.
All this pop Nordicism and Wagnerian fantasy is really just that. Many White Nationalists are just comic book readers who moved on to Conan the Barbarian from Superman comics. It’s sort of like reading the philosophy of Ayn Rand - a pulp detective novel reader who suddenly decided she was a great scholar - a kind of pop music version of philosophy that takes itself seriously. I wish I were joking, but you’ll be amazed by all the Conan the Barbarian fans among the WN crowd.
The amusing thing about these anti-Christian ideologues who believe that Christianity killed old Western civilization is that they forget that hating Christianity is only the same as hating the paganism that existed before it. Christian people didn’t exist in some vacuum; they had to live in the same Roman Mediterranean culture as everyone else. Much of Christian thinking is really just an expansion of what Greeks, Romans, Phoenicians, North Africans, and the rest already believed. Most early Christians at least lived like Romans and served in Roman army and bureaucracy, and understood that they wouldn’t become wiser by building only on their own vacuum but living in the Mediterranean society like fellow people and getting the best out of it.
The beloved Scandinavian and Germanic peoples only have an acquired tradition of Greco-Roman Christian culture, and very little survives of their older culture. It’s pointless to glorify people who practiced human sacrifice. The only Latin-speaking scholar to say they had any superior culture was R. A. Lafferty - a science fiction author specializing in historical fiction.
There was no such thing as a Germanic peoples to begin with. Asatru,.etc really is a Conan the Barbarian comic book fantasy. There were just Franks, Visigoths, Slavs,.etc spread out around the areas of modern day Germany, and Alpine dwelling peoples have been there who were not Germanic. It’s a mixed race borne from other peoples. Apparently, many people thought that identity (itself a vague concept) is not something you are born into, but something you can choose, through a fake history of your supposed peoples and claiming some pure racial ancestry that was never there.
A lot of anti-Semites hate Christianity, because Jesus was a Jew, and Christianity is probably a Jewish conspiracy. Except Jesus was a foreigner to Judea. Galilea was only recently Jewish at the time, and had always been a generic Mediterranean place of Mediterranean people. Which is what Jesus was. The example of Jesus himself being a foreigner who happened to be Jewish is a sign that race and culture are not some easily clear cut and identifiable things. Some guy, some place, some habits, taken from here and there, but not quite all of it.
Many great people have been born in decadent times. France’s social breakdown under Third Republic policies was still marked by people who worked on worthwhile things. Better people don’t pine for times long gone, like Rome or Germanic nations. They outdo everybody with the best they get in their day and age - see all the amazing Russian writers in tsarist days and Soviet days. To pine for older days is to strive for mediocrity - strange for people who attach so much value to IQ and social Darwinism.
And so on. The whole anti-capitalist, anti-socialist, anti-government, anti-corporation thinking of these “Third Way”-ers is the most shallow and mediocre thought inflicted in the internet age.
In the future, all the Stormfront posters of our time will be derided as “internet philosophers”, which should become the proper word for all these online pop thinkers.
On the one hand we have the Traditionalists and Evolaites who wish to return to an imaginary past, or emphasize the importance of what they call the Western Tradition, but is actually oriental mysticism and Steppe tribalism. Discontent with the modern world of welfare democracy and interventionism, they instead call for a return to these anti-Western and anti-civilization values. Economically they are usually producerist (i.e., welfare interventionists) and populists (i.e., democratic). Sometimes they advocate a return to a ruralist lifestyle, without seeming to realize that this would be suicide for the vast populations of the Earth. Not only are they not in the western tradition, they’re not even able to separate themselves from the ‘people’s state’ of the 20th century. On top of this they usually glorify some half-dead religion, or worse yet, some cranky Wiccan/Asatru bullshit that no one with a bit of sanity could take seriously.
Evola’s point is that society is in the Kali Yuga, we are submerged into materialist culture with no spirituality and no values. That we must turn away from this.
“Half-dead religion”, as if it no longer exist?
[POINTLESS BARB DELETED] Wiccan is some new age right-hand path religion that has NO CONNECTION to actual pagan religions. Evola was more interested in Greco-Roman paganism than Odinism/Asatru since he was Italian. He wanted to go back to the values and the spirituality of past religions. If you have any more ill-informed attacks on paganism keep them to yourself.
Also, a lot of people who are into Asatru or read Evola, from what I’ve seen, have well paying careers and aren’t involved with a bunch of new age nonsense, if you think they want to return to a ruralist world with no technology you are wrong.

A lot survives. Human sacrifice? Where? Again, ill-informed about the culture.

Asatru is some made up religion? Do you know anything about Asatru? What is known as Asatru/Odinism was as wide spread as Scotland and England through Scandinavia and Germany, and surrounding peoples. Are you also saying Germanic peoples never existed?
