There is something inherently wrong here - a movie about unapologetic violence and outright civil war and revenge against perceived exploiters and oppressors, with speeches made on pulpits and arms raised in righteous fury.
It’s something alien to advanced western civilizations of the post-twentieth century era, where full-scale and organized violence within one’s own community is an ennobling thing. And to put a political message on top of that, as if it is even meant to be taken seriously.
My multiple hours of playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 falsify this judgment. However, I do know that the falsification is merely subjective, and I will never be able to convice you that it is true.
Man, I’m confusing. By this logic, I wish to kill people and robots with magic powers while wielding a laser sword (across the timespam of 5000 years), become a lone-wolf American black operations agent (and operate under time pressure as a counterterrorist agent in California, Africa and New York, to boot), generate buildings out of nowhere in service to Chinese monarchs, build huge cities in 3 or 4 different architectural styles, travel in a spaceship killing the robotic slaves of a terrorist mastermind, possess alien species to serve my abolitionist ends and kill them via imploding their bodies, run a hospital in a disturbing, cartoonish version of suburban Britain, build huge skyscrapers office-by-office, run a neighbourhood full of dysfunctional virtual humans, be a Caribbean dictator (by my count, at least 4 times, with different ideologies), lead an anti-Soviet insurgency in an alternate-history 2003 New York, run a Vegas casino, run a zoo, and even become a demigod.
I’m either an aspiring Renaissance man, or have a combination of narcissism, paranoid schizophrenia, megalomania and, of course, multiple personality disorder. What a resume.
