Looking For Books

I’ve found there are lots of good Austrian books out there. The Mises store is great, but limited. I know they work hard to give us new material, and I’m sure they have a long list of publications that in time may be available. My query is could some of y’all name some good reads that can’t be purchased at the store. I’d like to see Sy Leon’s None of the Above: or LeFevre’s This Bread is Mine, available from the Mises store. The American Language by Mencken is a must read but I can see why it wouldn’t be here. It’d be nice to see more Hayek, like his Constitution of Liberty, or Good Money, I understand why The Sensory Order is also not available. Robert Higgs Neither Liberty Nor Safety is a good work.

I would sure be thankful for any recommendations of Austrian works not available from the Mises store.

I would furthermore like to thank the staff of the Mises Institute for their hard work.

Good day

What is the subject you are looking for?

I’m looking for works by Austrian authors or books with an Austrian theme like Rose Wilder Lane’s Give Me Liberty. I would really like to find a complete copy of Give Me Liberty.

In ebook format?

I prefer a hard copy(real books). I can’t afford an E-reader, but I’ll take any suggestions after all I could read on my PC if I had to. I like to own the books for reference as well.

I know it’s not news, but public libraries stink for selection. Any one else have this problem?

Ok then you are going to have to get even more specific. 20 century? 19th? 18th? Politics? History? Economics? Philosophy?

Eh depends what kind of library you are inside. School libraries aren’t so bad. Public community libraries are really only good for non-fiction because that is what people generally read.

That they do, but you may want to try an intra-library loan. You may need to pay for the shipping but you have access to nearly every library in the nation

Sounds good. Be nice to find a comprehensive book on epistemology on 18th 19th 20th century thought.

Good advice! Can you recommend a good work not available from the store?

In US or Europe?

Either, or both. Do you have something in mind? It’d be good to get an authority on the difference between many thinkers. A nice time line with contributions would be cool. I would like to know more about several thinkers.

Well it’s just hard to narrow down what you are looking for.

You can’t go wrong with Tocqueville, Benjamin Constant, Germaine de Stael, Richard Cobden, John Bright, Raymond Aron Opium of the Intellectuals, Paul Hollander’s Political Pilgrims, Walter Karp’s Politics of War, Phillip Knightley’s First Causality of War. I mean you have so much stuff that you could read if you keep your filters so broad.

Too true, especially if you like lengthy works. I haven’t read anything by the others you mentioned. Is amazon the best place to shop?

Yes. Is there a book or two you would like to be seen available at the Mises store?

Yea amazon is the best.

I’d love to see all these authors on the Mises site because I would rather buy from them then amazon.

Me too. Plus I like new books, but will buy used if I have too. I hate paying for shipping from more than one retailer in one order. I can’t afford it, but I’d love to have a collection of rare works, the store here does a phenomenal job of bringing us out of print works. I guess I’m greedy, or thirsty for more.

We can do This Bread.

Needs to be typeset though.

Though I know you really wanted individual recomendation, here are some good site to browse.

http://www.libertyfund.org/

http://www.e-elgar.co.uk/home.lasso?currency=US (very expensive, very scholarly)

The Economics of Crime is indispensable (quite a brick of a book though with 2000+ pages). The website above sells it for $400.00, so check into intra-library loans

Do what Gary North does: download the PDFs and then print them.

Whoop!

Y’all do such a fine job with your publications. From the cover art to the print. How very exciting. I adore the work of Mr. LeFevre.

Thank you.

What are the qualifications to get in the Mises store?

Thanks. The Liberty Fund produces many fine and high quality works, some of their books are available in the store here.

I will pursue The Economics of Crime. Is the author Harold Winter? My god that’s more than a dollar a page. I must get a library loan.
