Well, from a Catholic morals perspective, much of his philosophy is completely depraved. But I suspect some here would wear that as a badge of honor.

Within the context of Catholicism, it most definitely is.

You’d have to prove that papal authority applies to x, which is precisely the disagreement woods has. As such saying you must agree with the pope won’t help woods or anyone else that disbelieves the pope can say things about x.

I am not in disagreement with Woods. Woods doesnt dispute (contrary to what his critics claim) that the Pope has the right and duty to make moral judgments concerning economics (Ie suddenly changing your employee’s pay from 10 h/r to 1 cent an hour would be considered immoral).

If changing your employees pay down to 1 cent per hour is immoral, firing someone must be mortal sin?

Is it immoral just cuz he said so or did Benedict work out an ethics to compete with Rothbard?

Neither. I asked two questions.

But I’ll go ahead and make two arguments.

Saying that putting someone’s pay down to one cent per hour is immoral is nonsensical, if firing someone is okay.

Benedict should either create/prove an ethics or stay out of the ethics game. It could be up to your faith; but then you have no business making accusations about Mises Institute being a cult or Block being “depraved.”

John I think you misunderstood sicsempertyrannis. I think he was paraphrasing what the church would say. It’s not what he is saying necessarily. Or perhaps it’s me who misunderstood.

If changing an employee’s pay from $10 and hour to 1 cent an hour is in conflict with the agreement between the employee and employer, then it IS immoral.

Except that I didnt call the LvMI a cult. Don’t put words in my mouth. And yes, certain aspects of Block’s theories are depraved, from a Catholic morals perspective (half of the Defending the Undefendedable, for example). Personally, he seems like a nice guy. I just disagree with much of what he has to say. And if I thought the LvMI were ‘a cult’ would I bothering posting here?

And as for the first part, that was just an example. I’ll make it more clear - let’s say you got hired in at 10 h/r, but when you receive your check its only half that. Employer changed his mind and decided to pay less. Impossible? Yes, but it was only a clear example not what I am personally saying.
