I personally hate reading books on a computer (it wouldn’t be so bad if I had a tablet), and as a result, I don’t get as much reading done as I otherwise would…But I can’t afford to buy all of the books from LvMI that I’d like to read.
I think it would be awesome if LvMI would provide a subscription rental service for books (at least copies of the books that are already available freely available in pdf form…it may or may not cut into their sales of books that aren’t already freely available in pdf form) and possibly some of the audio/video that isn’t freely available (although there may be people using dialup that can’t access the free media, either, and might like to rent copies of it). I suppose LvMI could also offer one-time rentals, so people wouldn’t necessarily have to subscribe (this would require having a due date for the book to be returned to prevent further charges or automatic subscription or something).
Would anyone else be willing to use this? Any other thoughts on this idea? (If LvMI isn’t willing to do it, I’d consider doing, at least for their free downloadable books, it if they don’t mind.)
