I’ve been looking at the Swedish and Brazilian LvMI websites and noticed that their skins are either identical or extremely similar to that of the English LvMI website. In the near future, if one doesn’t pop up in the interim, I’d be interested in hosting something similar in Spanish. The purpose, at the least, would be to give Euribe a proper home for his valuable translations, which in my opinion do not get enough exposure due to in the fashion they are published in.
For the record, I’m not interested in doing the website myself, because if one day Euribe decides to stop translating, because he finds something better to do, I’m not prepared to take up the task myself.
In any case, I was wondering if it would be in Mises.org’s cards to develop a theme for Wordpress so that computer-illiterate people like me could easily set something up in our natural languages. I’m not sure how difficult it would be, but it would definitely not entail copying the Mises.org site in its entirety. In other words, it would just be applying the main page’s layout to a Wordpress blog.
Well, you don’t necessarily need a website to look like Mises.org in order to post this content. Any nice blog theme would do. The important thing is the content, not the look of the site.
There isn’t enough space, because if they were to do that with Euribe’s posts then they would also feel compelled to translate everything into Spanish + any other language. I already brought the issue up.
If you buy a domain, I think I could host it for you on my account as long as the traffic doesn’t get astronomical. I can set up a decent looking WP site, but am by no means an expert.
Well, the idea would be to imply some type of relationship with Mises.org. Something like this would be fine, but a Mises theme would imply the website’s relationship with LvMI - at least a relationship in the sense that it is emulating Mises.org.
In regards to a mises.es, or something like that, the problem is not hosting, but finding people interested in upkeeping the website with translation and articles, et cetera.
My advice: do not commit CSS-Rape when making the wordpress blog, & maybe consider flatpress if you’re aching for site space and/or cannot afford site costs as much.
Seriously consider either sticking in minimal HTML4 + CSS2 (note: for simplicity, do not use CSS for positioning, it’s a complete nightmare), or look ahead to HTML5 (which is already usable, & can be properly designed to downgrade to older browsers).
The point where the over-use of CSS (well past just using it positioning & bending over backwards with it’s lame box design with negative margins, hacks, & seperate style sheets for different browsers) gets in the way of making a functional site design, where the engineering of the superficial appearance of the site comes before designing a site that can deliver content in a competent manner.
I would tip my hat in, but I’m not going to have the time to be able to do it properly, honestly. No one has to go in it alone, though: this could be made into a thread project where one or more people work together on their own (or on one stylesheet) with the forum providing feedback & response to the layout / site.
