Medicare is especially harmful (so much of doctors’ overhead, raises prices, doesn’t reimburse correctly), so I was thinking that should go first. I favor something like making all medical expenses and donations 100% tax deductable, 100% deregulation, and allowing imported drugs to come in without any restrictions. While abolishing patents would be even better, that’s even more unrealistic.
I also favor raising the age at which someone can withdraw from social security to 75 or 76 and then abolishing it for people born after a certain date while lowering the taxes they pay.
Is there a better way to sunset it than what I’m thinking. Or should something be added to the above?
I know this is kind of a dumb post, but I thought maybe someone with more economic knowledge than myself would know how to sunset them.
It’s a mistake is to believe that you are entitled to a pension. CPP or whatever it is in the U.S. is a tax. Simple as. There is no fund and you are not entitled to future payments. The best way to shut it down is to tell people that it was a ponzi scam and they were fools to expect anything.
Well, I agree that it needs to go. But as for still telling me that I need to pay into a system in which I can’t collect until 3-4 years after my average life expectancy though is a problem for me. And then, still telling people they will not get it and still have to pay taxes doesn’t fly either. The government is going to have to raise revenue from some other area to make itself whole, such as general income tax that is going to fund the military or something. We are going to have to cut services to make the people who paid into whole. IMHO, it’s only fair. Personally, I haven’t filed a tax form in 5 years and don’t plan on starting any time soon.
Great idea, but to me, a system in which it is still a ponzi scheme until sunsetted does not effectivly replace another ponzi scheme.
A good and simple way to start would be simply to let people opt out. It would make most sense the younger the person. No social security tax withheld and no “benefits” for the future.
I have posted my hypothetical deal to the government on other forums: I am 30 years old. I have already paid into social security for 13 years of my life. I am willing to let the government keep everything that I have paid into social security free with no strings attached. Just simply let me opt out now.
The fact that the government would never accept such a deal with me proves just how much of a ponzi scheme the system really is.
I don’t know what the best way to dismantle specific government programs is. I know how you can find out. Entrepreneurs.
Enable people to sell their votes. You can still go to the polls and vote for whoever you want, but entrepreneurs and firms can offer you $$$ and obtain your vote. The entrepreneur best able to organize the country’s resources profitably will be able to offer people the highest price for their vote. Given that the government is very very inefficient, the firm will begin downsizing. By the end, government programs will be eliminated or permutated into private arrangements.
There are still problems with this. A firm could simply purchase 51% of the votes and fleece the minority every time. We would have to rely on the firm observing that it has a de facto monarchy, and really has an incentive to produce ALL the resources profitably, not just those of its constituents.
You already can opt out. You just won’t be able to get a job anywhere.
