May the best man win? Everybody have a good time?
Come on, Americans!
Glad you’re cheering for us. Also, I’m a fan of David Bowie - especially the Ziggy Stardust album.
May the best man win? Everybody have a good time?
What?
“Yes, the USA were robbed.”
What team doesn’t get robbed in some way during a given game? I bet that if we re-watch the match, we’ll find instances where Slovenia was robbed. Hey, how about the USA doesn’t give up two goals in the first place?

Good point, but usually the robbery is not quite as blatant. The referee’s mistake was bad enough to be outside the normal range of error. It was as if someone had paid him off. There was another particularly bad call earlier, when the ball came off Robbie Findley’s face, yet he was given a yellow card for a hand ball. It was his second yellow card, so he will miss the match vs. Algeria.
Yes, the USA can’t blame anyone but themselves for giving up two goals. But they came back and scored three in the second half, while shutting out Slovenia. It would have been nice if the third one had been allowed to stand.

Perhaps it was blatant to you, especially if you are a USA fan. However, I’m willing to bet that a Slovenia fan found a blatant robbery against his team as well. If you want to see a match that was horribly ref-ed, watch the France versus Mexico match.
Yeah, I’m a biased USA fan. It was just frustrating because the whole first week everyone was saying how great the refs were doing. All in all, I don’t care that much and mostly just enjoyed watching a game with lots of goals and excitement. I didn’t catch France vs. Mexico, so maybe I’ll watch the replay on ESPN3. Who are you rooting for?

The first goal could have been called offsides - it was close. The PK should have been a yellow card for the Mexico player for diving. Lots of stupid yellow cards, like in the Germany vs. Serbia match. I hope France advances - Ribery is fun to watch.
The only way South Africa or France could advance is if either team beats the other by 3+ goals along with Mexico and Uruguay drawing. A miracle indeed, but I believe a similar situation occurred which allowed the US to progress in the Confed Cup last year…

a blessing in disguise
The English soccer team visited a Cape Town orphanage on Saturday.
“It’s heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope,” said Jamal, aged 6.
a blessing in disguise
Hope you’re right. I’ve only seen Findley play in the two World Cup matches so far, and he’s no superstar. Looks like he’ll probably be replaced by Buddle or Gomez.
"Innocent fans entering stadiums are searched by SAPS (South Africa Police Services) officers, under the direction of FIFA officials, to confiscate illegal clothes, folding umbrellas and handbags of criminal size. On the orders of FIFA, our own police stands ready to arrest our own citizens, should they be suspected of infringing the Byzantine laws our new masters have imposed.
The 56 special FIFA courts, staffed by 110 magistrates, 260 prosecutors, 93 foreign language interpreters, 110 local language interpreters, 1 140 court officials and 327 court orderlies who usually just laze around our regular courts all day, has heard 18 cases to date, reports Mail & Guardian journalist Lionel Faull. He notes that with a total budget of R45 million, this works out to R1.75 million for each of the eight convictions. Our FIFA magistrates, naturally, have a lot of time to follow the football, and can credibly call it research, to boot."
Leaving your qualification on a razor’s edge, team USA? Anyways, good to see you get through. Please please please outlast the English!
Italy just finished getting knocked out by Slovakia with a hideous performance. How hilarious. This is the best World Cup I’ve ever seen.
I’m officially on the Japan bandwagon.
