Milton Friedman

Did he ever endorse the gold standard? I was told he did but I can’t find anything that supports that claim.

According to Mark Skousen’s Vienna & Chicago, he did. I remember DAdalton from the older Austrian forum also mentioning that he came to espouse the gold standard. I guess contacting either of them would be a way to find out where he did this exactly.

Yet, Milton Friedman is a radical advocate of cutting all current ties, however weak, with gold, and going onto a total and absolute fiat dollar standard, with all control vested in the Federal Reserve System.

After he had been instrumental in administrations from Nixon to Reagan ingraining fiat currency and the federal reserve, he figured out he was wrong about the gold standard, I think. Can’t remember where I read that though.

And yet too, just before he died, he reiterated that his monetarist program was the way to go.

I don’t how to contact them [:$]
