The head doesn’t fit the body.
Looks fine to me, the photo looks like it was shot at a wide-angle.
Is there anyone living today who met/knew Mises and would know how accurate the coloration in this enhancement is?

I think it is cool, don’t get me wrong. No, it is not an accurate wide angle interpretation. Other graphic artists should recognize serious and rather easily correctable flaws in it right away though (It just needs more work to be improved). Again, the head doesn’t fit the body. The ears, shoulders and neck have an obvious “smudiness” from cropping the portrait source and the head periphery versus chest have lighting/focus issues. The treatment of the main face seems solid until you look at the beard area and it starts to get flat. If he posts the PSD, it could be improved.
