In Singapore… ( a 2004 article)

“The good news for Singapore’s secret army of clandestine chewers: gum is going on sale legally for the first time in 12 years. The bad news: if you want some you will have to register as a gum user and show an identity card every time you buy a packet.”

I know this is from 2004, but just want people to be aware of the nanny state going too far. TSA full body scanners, sure it’ll make me safe. Traffic Redlight cameras? Sure, it will save me from collisions. Dog license? Sure, it will save me from stray dogs. Gum license? Sure, it will save me from litter.

Ridiculous. Isn’t it funny how “litter” or, in this case, stray gum is only a problem on socialized property?

But don’t you want clean sidewalks and the guarentee that there will be no gum on your shoes?

I know when I first heard/read this I thought of how right after WWII, we would fight communism with “Four-Year Plans”, not their “Five-Year Plans”, right, thats pure capitalism.
