I’m looking for free market perspectives on oil spills from other parts of the world (Africa?) that are supposedly, as a liberal friend of mine has said, left and never cleaned up. This is his indictment of the free market and the need for government regulation.
tia, Skyler.
Did he mention any specifics?
He’s probably referring to the Niger Delta region. Yeah, Royal Dutch Shell and Nigerian kleptocrats… But all we need is more government!
He didn’t mention any specifics. Do they ever? I thought about pressing him for specifics after the discussion was over. A lot of good that did.
@Hard Rain, I looked that up on Wikipedia and it could be what he was referring to. I’ll be sure to clarify the next time it comes up.
Yeah, I know a bit about the troubles in the Delta. It’s a typical anti-property rights problem that breeds a classic “tragedy of the commons” situation. As I referenced earlier, when you mix a kleptocracy with a massive trans-national government entity what should we expect other than exploitation and disaster?
I used this for a reference one. Might help.
