Another unflattering article for chavez… hoh boy.

Oliver Stone’s documentary ‘South of the Border’ grossed more in one weekend in the US than in nearly two weeks in Venezuela.

Are there more americans than venezuelans?
Do they charge the same ticket price?
Do venezuelans go to the movies as often? Between movie piracy and no culture of abundance, I’d say not.

The state-run La Previsora is the last theater in Caracas still playing the film, charging a government-subsidized ticket of three bolivars, or 70 cents.

Guess they don’t charge the same price…

It’s that it flopped in President Chávez’s native Venezuela, perhaps the one country where it was most expected to do well

Everything in venezuela is subsidized. It doesn’t actually make things cheaper.

The film grossed only $18,601 on 20 screens in the 12 days after its June 4 debut, Variety magazine reported, citing Global Rentrak. Meanwhile, the Michael Jackson documentary “This Is It” grossed $2.1 million during its recent showing in Venezuela.

I bet it grossed more in America too…

Stone sets the tone with clips from US television news reports calling Chávez a bigger threat to American security than Osama bin Laden. Refuting the angry, authoritarian Chávez portrayed in American media sound bites, the film shows a more human side to him and other leaders. Chávez at one point tours a corn processing plant, joking that it’s a guise for producing WMDs. It’s “a corn atomic bomb,” he chuckles.

Sounds like the film is directed at american audiences. Its probably in english. Non-native language films typically don’t do very well ever.

The only part that shows pro-chavez citizens is under “preaching to the choir”, implying that the following opinions are of idealogues. Its a good way to introduce any speaker.

Oliver Stone is an idiot, but he is a talented filmmaker (i.e. Wall Street). Have you seen W.? It’s actually a very good movie, but I’m surprised Stone wasn’t harsher towards his presidency. A few jokes thrown in, but it wasn’t that bad of a critique.

I love how Walter Block quotes Gordon Gecko. Stone was trying to be satirical, but he has no clue about the economy. He is making a remaking, or already made one, its called Wall Street 2: money never sleeps.

Someone should make a big time feature film that shows all the evils of corpratism and all the benefits of capitalism, so that people can identify the real enemy.
