On the right and left

Can the definition of right and left just be put on a scale of voluntary action to involuntary action?

There is no single definition of left and right. There are other classifications, like authoritarian / anti-authoritarian, voluntarist / anti-voluntarist, collectivist / individualist that I consider much more useful.

No.

The left will tell you voluntaryism is inherently left wing, the right will tell you that it is right.

Left and right are nothing but social phenomena that occur under the presence of a democratic state. Any ideological content to them (contrary to what their respective proponents claim) is merely incidental. Simply put, it is awkward to analyze their philosophic content, because the left and right, as such, do not represent competing philosophies, but rather two sides in a power struggle; they’re just two assortments of protectionism duking it out.

Wow, I was a little surprised that another one of these threads popped up, yet further surprised at the more-insightful-than-average posts so far, regarding this very type of thread.
