I’ve always wondered how the left-right paradigm came about. America is originally libertarian but it got divided in the concept of liberty. Some want social freedom but reject economic freedom and vice versa. This segregation does not make sense to me. Left-Right politics seems incoherent now that I am a libertarian.They seem false ideologies. How do you make sense of this segregation? Why is the debate nowadays about left vs right when it should be libertarian vs statist?

“Left-libertarians” don’t follow libertarian law, so there really is no such thing. They are confused individuals.
Well here’s the general change.
Classical liberal was fairly libertarian, conservative was pretty much slightly more repressive on both fronts. America was different from everywhere else in some ways, it became divided up by things like slavery and tariffs.
As socialist philosophy became mixed in with liberalism the same change began to take place as it did in Europe. The liberals became more “left” (seriously f*** the political spectrum its so stupid) until the point where Roosevelt came along and liberal means something similar to what it means today.
So basically the eternal answer is that liberalism everywhere became infected with socialist philosophy and misplaced philanthropy leading the ideology to be more “benevolent” (lol)
