The LvMI is mainstream.
Thoughts?
If I were Krugman I’d be embarrassed at my apparent readership given the comments that appear on my posts. Then again, his whole post is not any better. “OMG he hates Lincoln! lol!!!11!one!” is pretty much the entire content of the post.
Mr Clay looks to have started a smear campaign. Paul wants to jump on the bandwagon.
They’re bickering over Fascism = Socialism. Krugman points out an example of where Mises.org points out the fascists nature in American Healthcare as if that assessment were absured. I wonder what Krugman’s definition of economic Fascism is?
Agreed it’s bad. People are reading Dilo’s articles saying, “It goes from bad to worse”. I wonder how many of them can actually refute the articles? Given the level of research, and rigorous citations that Dilo provides?
Man, I’m reading the comments and these people can’t think beyond a right-left paradigm.
I know a number of these right wing wacherdoodle right wingers. Just tell them the American Civil War was about slavery, and watch them go nuts.
DiLorenzo is clearly a southern Republican who engages in a great deal of historical revisionism in his boook “The Real Lincoln” (yes, I’ve read it). Of course, he’d likely say he is a libertarian . . .
I find it rather amusing that the people screaming “Fascism!” the loudest are conservatives where, if they actually read what fascism was all about, and actually thought about it for a moment, they’d say, “Okay, yeah, the fascists had the right idea. They just took it too far.” Instead they just throw it out as an epithet knowing nothing whatsoever about what it actually means.
The man is, sympathetically, a deconstructionist.
This is the essence of all movement conservatives.
I agree with Michael Halasy, who shares my puzzlement over how the Right constantly uses Socialism and Fascism as if they were interchangeable. Who ARE these people?
I wonder if mises.org will see a jump in traffic. It may be a smear, but it’s also good advertising.

I agree, and if people are determined to fous on more interesting things and ignore “the truth about Lincoln” stuff, it may lead to some interesting discussions.
This one has been my favorite so far :
How much do Ron or Rand Paul really believe the garbage they spew? How much of what they say is motivated by opportunism, to rally their supporters (the insufficiently educated) or raise money from big dollar donors, and how much by pure greed (to not pay any taxes)?
Ron Paul has always struck me as a greedy little bastard with no interest whatsoever in his fellow man.
i still do not get it… What does his view on Abe or Southern secession have to do with economics? That congressman refusing to ask DiLorenzo any economic questions is just absurd. The mainstream, more specifically, that congressman and Krugman, think they can discredit Austrian Economics by showing Dilorenzo’s view on Southern secession. Well that is a very low blow on the behalf of the mainstream because they rather citicize the views on the people associated with Austrian Economics instead of criticizing the Economics of Austrian Economics. Actually, I do not find it ironic that they would do something like that because Krugman has been trying to discredit AE on Economics but it is clear that he has failed, so he is now trying to discredit AE based on an Economist’s view.
Good point.
@Eric. I loled at someone who said something to the sound of “This isn’t my kind of conservativism!”.
I am literally astounded every time someone posts something by Krugman on these boards. The man has relegated himself to obscurity. Nobody who isn’t a brainwashed, left-wing, idiot cares what he has to say.
My favorite is the guy from Alabama in the comments section who says that Southerners should not be allowed to vote. ‘The franchise is extended too far’.
And the other guy who says that Milton Friedman disagrees and ‘guys like Dilorenzo’ hold Milton Friedman as sacred cows. Alrightythen… if you say so.
I particularly like the argument from authority that Milton Friedman gets, particularly by liberals and Keynesians. As the ultimate test of what one should or shouldn’t believe in economics. They don’t know that there is a whole world of economics out there not to do with Krugman or Milton Friedman. So when Milton Friedman and Krugman agree on something… what else is there in the universe as a test of validity? That’s right… nothing. You silly silly person.

Passionate self righteous true believers are on all sides of the political spectrum, it is usually best not to focus too much on them.
They literally have no arguments against succession. I don’t see them at all positied. They will say (in a supremely stuck up manner) that, “I thought the issue of secession was taken care of in 1861?” As if that’s supposed to be a rebuttal? So you’re appealing to might makes right? Neat-o.
As I said here on another post, they mockingly say that Texas should secede because they don’t want to be around them. Congratulations, that is the very essence of the libertarian credo. Freedom of association. You don’t have to associate with Texas, so why not secede from them or have no problem with them seceding? I saw a comment like that on Krugman’s post and I saw another asinine reference to federal funding (Texans would replenish lost federal funding with a proportional system of taxation, morons. The United States steals money from Texas and then spoonfeeds it back to them and there are not 350 million people that they have to take care of).

Brainwashed, left-wing idiots now perusing the mises.org archives.

It’s actually very important. If what Dilo says about Lincoln and american revisionism is true, most of our mainstream’s historical understanding of Economics could also be in severe error and rejected, including all that historical jive about the Fed. Specifically, several economic things Abe himself did, that Dilo points out. He was nothing short of trying to play dictator.
Mainstream has to preserve history as it is percieved. They must treat any honest attempt of objectively reviewing american history as severaly dangerous to their cause. Thats why at all costs, people emotionally lash out at Dilo’s research, without actually looking at the researc itself.
Think of how orwellian this all is?
John, Josh Bivens of the Economic Policy Institute yesterday pulled out that card. “Even the conservative economist Milton Friedman blah blah blah.” Newsflash, evoking Friedman is not something that those discussing the Austrian Business Cycle Theory are concerned with whatsoever.
FREE MARKETS = CONSERVATIVE!
I wonder how many of those commenters knows what Economic Socialism and Economic Fascism is?
Free markets = conservative = Nazi!
