Thanks, Clayton. Reminds me of the footage of American military brutality at the end of the documentary A New American Century. Is there any fundamental difference between police brutality at home and military brutality abroad?

@nir: True - however, I wanted the video to speak for itself without elaboration. I chose video clips that depict utterly inexcusable police violence, violence that could not be justified no matter what had happened prior to the video clip. I familiarized myself with the details of each case, some of them I was already aware of before I put the video together. Most of these people are completely innocent individuals but their treatment could not be justified even if they had just murdered someone and their hands were still dripping with blood. I think the most serious “offenders” are the police chase guy and the woman at the end with a DWI. The rest are basically 100% innocent or have bullshit violations.

@nir: But now that you mentioned it, I think I’ll put links to news articles for each clip in chronological order. If you knew the background of each of these clips, I think it would make it more powerful. For example, the woman being forcibly stripped naked was taken in by the Sheriff’s office after she called them because a relative of hers was making threats and wouldn’t leave her house. The officer on the scene got “confused” and thought she was the one to be taken in. She was assaulted and forcibly strip-searched in front of multiple male officers, one of which assisted in “securing” her while the female officers ripped her clothes off. Naturally, she’s screaming her head off in terror as she’s being forced to kneel over the bed in the doggy position.

Just mute it if you don’t like it. I used it as a satirical device. This is the kind of amped-up music that they put all those fighter jet footage and other military/police “rah-rah” videos to. The testosteronal head-banging mentality is fine for working out at the gym or training but the brute reality of applied violence is a lot less… cosmetic.

@Clayton: With many of these, you can’t even tell if it is justified without the context. Kicking someone on the ground doesn’t seem excessive if they just killed a little girl with a screwdriver.

But that’s not really the point. The point is that if you or I kicked someone on the ground, even if they had just killed your daughter with a screwdriver, we would be charged with assault and likely face very stiff punishment. The law does not recognize an individual’s adrenaline level as an excuse for assault… unless you’re a cop, in which case, it’s a perfectly valid excuse. The point is the double-standard. Cops get away with their outrageous behavior because they are granted carte blanche by the judges and DAs and they know it. All they have to do is follow some ceremonial rules in their application of violence.

The guy lies down flat on the ground face-down with his arms and legs spread wide apart. He’s clearly not holding a usable weapon and is massively overpowered by someone standing over him with a gun.
Don’t tell me that a kick to the face is standard procedure here.

I didn’t say it was standard procedure, I was saying that you can’t tell if it is justified or not just from the video. If you walked into a room where people were hanging an unarmed man, you would have to know why they are hanging him to figure out if an injustice is being done or not. I doubt that a single one of these are justified, but an informed judgement cannot be made by simply watching those video clips.
I agree that you would probably be charged with assault, but doing so (kicking a murderer) would not be unjust.
