@Nielsio, Long just made a blog post dealing with the issue I was trying to get at. When I talk of “spontaneous justice” just think of the “Celtic-Germanic system”. You can read the short post here.
That doesn’t explain a theory of justice. All it does is argue for the right to bear arms.
The article most definitely does pertain to this topic. For the purposes of this discussion I assumed that we both agree on a broadly libertarian theory of justice (such as Nozick’s entitlement theory, Rothbard’s NAP, or Jasay’s presumption of liberty). I didn’t think you were asking me about a theory of justice, merely how justice should be enforced. In my view, there is a large role for everyday citizens to contribute to the enforcement of rules (not only specialized institutions like PDAs or police). Do you disagree?
You should stop using phrases like “how justice should be enforced”, when we clearly don’t agree on the meaning of justice.
I’m really not interested in discussing this topic with you until you try to defend certain positions.
Namely, why do you think it is justified in beating a child who has stolen something?
