I don’t know. Show me I am getting value for my money. I mean, I could put on a blindfold and walk along scaffolding on a skyscraper. That’s a risk. Nobody is going to open the tax coffers to pay me for it. And I could just as easily run into a burning building to save someone, but who will give me money if I am not an “official” firefighter? So go on. You go on and figure out a way to determine the value of that work. You will find that you are forced to respond with “This isn’t something you can put a price on.” When you make that argument, you will have admitted to a subjective point of view for rationality. At that point, I can state that you also can’t put a price on watching someone blindfold themselves, walk along the edge of a building, fall, and go splat. That really is priceless. Let’s pay that person 200K if they don’t fall. They’ve earned it.
I wish I didn’t have to, but I should probably point out that other jobs are risky too.
Fishermen, lumberjacks, farmers, construction workers… All jobs more dangerous than policework, some several times as dangerous. I don’t know any lumberjacks to be making 180,000 though.
Most policemen are killed in traffic accidents, eg when directing traffic. And they shoot dead far more people than are policemen shot dead by other people.

Well, recognizing the specialization of labor involved in security and speculating as to what pay security labor should receive is quite different. I am much too far removed from the market of security to speculate wages, though how could anyone without the use of proper market forces.
