I’ve read that these for-profit fire companies ended up being a disaster. Any insite on the issue?

It’s not the only place that I have read it. So, with that being said, any insite to the issue would be greatly appreciated. I’d like some material or insite to read to get a better understanding of what exactly went wrong, how the companies were set up, how they were funded, etc.
This article gives no historical examples of anything. Some obscure reference to William Tweed being a voluntary firefighter and thus firefighting is corrupt? Perhaps it would do well to remind the author of this high school article that William Tweed was also a Democrat and a politician. If simply being a firefighter makes all of firefighting in the private sector corrupt then according to her logic everything that Tweed was involved in [ The Democratic Party and government ] is corrupt to. Clearly we need to end the corruption! I say start with government. [H]
The only thing that went wrong is that city governments decided to legislate the private companies out of existence. As usual.
