Pure and Applied Mathematics : Pure and Applied Economics

Is the distinction between pure mathematics and applied mathematics analogous to a possibly existent distinction between pure economics and applied economics?

The distinction does not really makes sense. No one knows a priori what kind of math will be applied and where. Something is used, something is not currently, this is not important.

All economics is applied.

How so? You can assume that humans have negative time preference and derive intelligible results. Is that applied economics, too?
