Would you say you are a proud American without necessarilly associating yourself with the American government or approving its actions?
Would your pride in the people of the territories that comprise USA exist without having anything to do with government under which many of them are even willingly subject?
Same for any other country.
Would you say you are proud to be British, without meaning to refer to pride in the Crown or the Parliament or the Royal Air Force? Would you still enjoy singing God Save The Queen without meaning it to be an allegiance to the current Labour or Conservative government and more to, say, the people?
These questions probe my mind after reading Joe Sobran’s pieces on patriotism vs. nationalism.
Gut reaction, no. My place of birth is hardly something I could have controlled. Why should I feel any pride in it?
I’m proud of my achievements, not on things I can’t influence. However, I’m very happy that I live in
the Netherlands because it made me wealthier than the average human being.

I hope you realise how far you can extend this reasoning.
Rather than make insinuations, why don’t you just come out and tell me what you think the logical conclusion of my reasoning actually is. 
A nation and a state are two seperate entities, so there isn’t anything wrong with being proud neccesarily. You can have multiple nations in a single territory, under a single government, and I’m sure you could without any government. I’m not prideful person though, I am proud of some of my accomplishment and my ethical standpoint.
I dont know about ‘proud’ of my country, but I generally like the people, culture and lifestyle of where I live.
