I was listening to Tom Woods host Peter Schiff’s radio show discussing race and discrimination with Walter Williams. Walter said, concerning discrimination, how certain laws lower the cost of discrimination. Can someone explain this? What does he mean lower the cost of discrimination? Thanks!

If some type of labor is cheaper, say women or minorities, then employers have to hire more expensive labor just so they can discriminate. If the government mandates equal wages, discrimination becomes free.
Ahh…so without the laws the employers would likely being paying for their discrimination. I see it now. Simple, just couldn’t put my arm around it. Thanks.
