Rahm Imanuel Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values

Wow!!! Is it really 2012 or have I lost my mind? This guy really doesn’t see that legal segregation of Christians (Chic Fil A values) is the same as legal segregation of blacks?

Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values,” Emanuel said earlier this week, agreeing with a local alderman’s opposition to the opening of a Chick-fil-A in the city’s 1st Ward. “They disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents… This would be a bad investment, since it would be empty.”

Even if he could know that (and he cannot), I’m left wondering:

a) would he be trying to protect Chick-Fil-A by stopping them from losing money on a bad investment?

b) is he under the impression that, like a socialistic state, the government should be deciding which businesses go where?

This actually makes me want to vote for Rahm. He is a rare breed. An honest tyrant. Do as I say or I won’t spare the rod.

Gay marriage isn’t even legal in Illinois.

Also, Ragm invited Louis Farrakhan to help police the city.

Louis. Farrakhan.

Rahm Emmanuel is an idiot.

While I obviously don’t agree that the city councils should be banning or actively discriminating against Chick-fil-A when it comes to city planning or approval, the company is still run by a bunch of shitty homophobes and religous zealots, and I won’t be spending my money there any more.

Fo every sandwich you don’t eat I’ll eat 3.

I recommend Chic Fil a start selling a new sandwich in honor of Rahm “The Jim Crow Chicken Sandwich” all the toppings of a Chicago Dog on a chicken sandwich. Unfortunately yea it’s kinda hard for them to take a principled stand against publicly enforced discrimination, when the president of the company is privately advocating discrimination against another group. Hopefully one or both sides will see the irony in it and change their beliefs.

…the company is still run by a bunch of shitty homophobes and religous zealots…

For a bunch of “shitty homophobes” they certainly have no problem with their stores employing gays and lesbians, at least in my corner of the world.

Well, at least in the US, and I assume most if not all of developed Europe, they’re legally required to do so. So no real reason to give them points there.

I’ve become a big proponent of publicy shaming people who oppose gay rights. It’s an extremely important civil rights issue, and impacts some of my family members and close friends.

Anyway, relating to Emanuel’s comments, we seem to be on the same side as Mother Jones on this issue when it comes to him abusing mayoral powers, ha:

That aside, there’s really no excuse for Emanuel’s and Menino’s actions. If you don’t want to eat at Chick-fil-A, don’t eat there. If you want to picket them, go ahead. If they violate the law, go after them. But you don’t hand out business licenses based on whether you agree with the political views of the executives. Not in America, anyway.
