Seeing, that there are a lot of people on these forums who are more than conversant in mathematics I’ve had a question about that subject which is perplexing me.

  1. What are pythagorean numbers

  2. why does y^2=(1+x)(1-x)=(y/(1+x)=(1-x)/y)? In all my memory of algebra 2 and trig I can’t figure this identity out.

Sorry this isn’t related to econ. but thanks.

I think they are integer solutions to a^2+b^2=c^2

  1. why does y^2=(1+x)(1-x)=(y/(1+x)=(1-x)/y)?

start with y^2=(1+x)(1-x)

then divide both sides by (1+x)

now you have

y^2/(1+x)= (1-x)

then divide both sides by y

now you have

y/(1+x) = (1-x)/y
