There is no competition in the economic sense unless there is ownership of the profit and losses.
States do not compete, they simply coexist.
Well there is ownership and profits among states. As long as special interests get their way and politicians get their benefits, that a profit. Otherwise there’s a loss. Attracting capital and human resources which to latter tax is competition among states. Of course, calculation is difficult, but, in the sense of this mode of competition, possible. The more states are there, the easier is calculation.

I wouldn’t agree. The republic exists only for special interests. It is them to whom the state is auctioned (bribes) and it is they who make use of it. Poiticians are just caretakers, managers.
